At times we need a safer space away from our day-to-day lives to focus on our family; the bonds and connections between family members, the collaboration of the team, communication, roles and responsibilities as well as the various identities and experiences within the family system.

Sometimes families find it difficult to communicate, or face challenges amongst family members. At times people may face challenges with parenting, feeling distant from their children, or may undergo transitions such as separation, blending families, relocating, illness, etc. Family counselling can be a great step towards helping family members to understand problems, and make positive changes in their lives as individuals and members of the family team.

In family counselling it is important to acknowledge and balance power dynamics to help ensure that each family member is heard and has a chance to access their voice. It is my goal to collaborate with families to facilitate conversations exploring the concerns, the hopes and the goals that each member has for themselves and the family, creating space for positive change.

Family Counselling can address various concerns including (but not limited to):

  • Fighting and conflict between family members

  • Conflicts and power struggles between children / adolescents and parents

  • Parenting style differences

  • Transition in family dynamic (divorce, separation, blending family, identity, aging, illness)

  • Adjusting to aging youth (identity formation, behavioural issues, distancing, physical growth, etc.)

  • Grief or loss

  • Family communication
